Jennifer Ferguson

I have worked as an NHS Speech and Language Therapist with the Wiltshire Speech and Language Therapy Team for the past 10 years. I have a BSc in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Strathclyde and a Post Graduate Certificate in Evidence Based Practice in Communication Disorders from Newcastle University. I have substantive experience working with children, families and education staff in the home, clinic, mainstream settings and specialist resource bases.

I have direct experience and training in providing therapy to children with:

Pre-school language delay. I am trained in working with families using Parent Child Interaction Therapy. I am also trained in Makaton at levels 1 and 2. 

Pre-school complex needs and Autism. I have worked as part of the team at Springboard and Devizes District Specialist Centres for the past 2 years. I am trained in the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Attention Autism. I am also a qualified trainer for the Hanen: More Than Words Parent Programme which supports parents of children aged 0-5 years on the Autism Spectrum.  

Speech Delay and Disorder including Verbal Dyspraxia. I completed post graduate studies in speech sounds disorders and have been working as a speech disorder specialist in the NHS since 2015. I have experience in using a range of speech intervention programmes including the Nuffield Dyspraxia Programme. 

Stammering and Fluency. I am qualified in delivering the Lidcombe Therapy Programme for children aged 2- 7 years. I am trained in using the Swindon Fluency Therapy Interventions for school age children and teenagers. I have been involved in running a week-long residential therapy course, funded by the Swindon Fluency Trust, for teenagers who stammer.  

School-age Language Difficulties including Developmental Language Disorder. I am experienced in assessing and supporting children's understanding and use of language as well as working jointly with teaching staff to identify and support children to communication friendly class experiences.  I have worked in specialist language units as well as in mainstream schools. I have experience in delivering 1:1 language therapy, Lego Language Therapy and shape and colour coding for language.

I am a member of the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP), a registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a registered member of my professional body the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT).
